Inspired by the work of Syd Mead, Douglas Trumbull, and John Whitney, this experimental work was created by cinematographer/VFX artist Christopher Webb and his team at FX WRX.
Practical effects were captured with a one-of-a-kind large format animation camera system. This process blends optical effects, animation, and motion control robotics. Atmospheric lighting effects were created with special projection techniques, instead of smoke or volumetric lighting. This provided rich contrast and textural illumination.
Working with in-camera VFX brought a sense of experimentation and discovery to the process. It also allowed for the capture of both moving image and high resolution stills, as the magic unfolded.
